Modular Shelving

Challenge

The Minnesota Council on Disability regularly takes part in high-traffic public events, including the Minnesota State Fair. For their fair booth, the organization needed an effective way to display rolled graphics and informational materials that were difficult to organize and present in a visually appealing way.

The existing setup limited display capacity and did not fully reflect the organization’s brand. The Council needed a solution that would:

  • Maximize display space within a small booth footprint
  • Organize rolled materials in a functional, accessible way
  • Improve the overall look and branding of their booth
  • Be reusable and adaptable for future events

Solution

Big Spirit Inc. designed and fabricated an innovative, modular shelving system tailored specifically for event use.

The shelving was intentionally designed to be multifunctional and reconfigurable. Each shelf unit forms a triangular shape, allowing for stability while offering visual interest. By adding a “bridge” component between each triangle, the system could expand to create additional surface area and storage.

This configuration allowed the Minnesota Council on Disability to display rolled graphics and baskets neatly, turning previously hard-to-manage materials into an organized and intentional display. Rearranging the modular shelving into multiple layouts caters to space, needs, or future events.

Design & Branding Impact

Beyond functionality, the shelving system significantly elevated the booth’s appearance. The clean, cohesive design improved the organization’s branding and gave the booth a more polished, professional look.

Rather than competing with the displayed materials, the shelving acted as a visual anchor. This helped items stand out while maintaining an uncluttered, welcoming environment for fair attendees.

Results

  • Increased display capacity within the booth
  • Improved organization and accessibility of materials
  • A cleaner, more cohesive branded presence
  • A reusable, modular solution adaptable to multiple events

The shelving system now serves as a long-term asset for the Minnesota Council on Disability, supporting its outreach efforts well beyond the Minnesota State Fair.

Conclusion

This project showcases Big Spirit Inc.’s ability to create custom, thoughtful design solutions that balance innovation, functionality, and aesthetics. By transforming a practical storage challenge into a flexible design feature, Big Spirit delivered a shelving system that enhances both usability and visual impact.
